Kayla Speedy is a costumer, technician, educator and designer in theater and film. She has been working in Philadelphia Theater for the past 10 years after receiving her BS in Fashion Design from Drexel University in 2014.
Kayla started her career at the Walnut Street Theatre as a 2014-15 apprentice and continued to be head draper there from 2016-2020. Her draping and construction skills have also been utilized by other institutions throughout the city including The Arden, Opera Philadelphia, Hedgerow, In the Fringe and various film projects. And she has done set costuming work on a few TV shows filming in the area as well.
Along with her costume construction work she has been Lower Merion High School's Costuming Coach from 2015-2023 and an adjunct professor at Drexel University and Temple University. Costuming and construction are a passion of Kayla's and she is happiest when she is able to share it with others.
She has designed all over the city and in the surrounding areas. A few theaters to note are The Walnut Street Theatre, The Hedgerow Theatre, 11th Hour Theatre Company, Upper Darby Summer Stage, The Lantern Theatre Company and Resident Theatre Company. She received a 2017 Barrymore Nomination for her costume design work on 11th Hour's "LIZZIE". "LIZZIE" took home the award for Outstanding Overall Production of a Musical.
